The European Union's "Jean Monnet" program was founded in 1989 to recognize the merits, encouragement and association of leading scientists who devote their careers to researching and teaching various dimensions of European integration. The program is aimed exclusively at higher education. Its goal is to ensure the highest quality of teaching, research and dialogue on European integration in the EU and beyond. Participation in the "Jean Monnet" program also provides an opportunity for the development of academic ties. During its existence, the network of Chairs and Centers named after Jean Monnet has become the most prestigious association of researchers of the European Union and integration processes, covering all countries of the world.
The program "Jean Monnet" has several forms of implementation. For universities it is a virtual department named after Jean Monnet (with the professor Jean Monnet standing in her head); centers of excellence (created on the basis of Jean Monnet Chairs); micromodules on European integration in the framework of technical or natural-science courses; and support for conferences and seminars. Support for research centers dealing with problems of European integration and research associations is singled out in a separate category. Thus, the basic, long-term and most prestigious form for universities is the establishment of the Jean Monnet Chairs.read more »»
