Student debate May 19, 2018

A student debate on the current and future Russia-European Union relations between Russian and foreign students took place on 19 May 2018. The students were invited to reflect on the future of Russia-EU relations in the medium term, the legal dialogue format, its institutions and subjects of cooperation (from foreign policy to economics, from visa issues to culture).

The EU Model was held in March 2018

The European Union is the closest geopolitical entity to Russia, a real quasi-state, which, despite its more than 50-year history of distrust, exists and successfully develops. Long before the formation of the modern borders of the Union, the peoples of Europe and their political leaders realized the potential of economic and political unification, gradually experimenting from small Union forms (integration processes between Belgium and Luxembourg, and then the Netherlands) through the period of communities of 6 States to the modern, almost comprehensive integrative unity.

Winter Intensive Courses in 2018

The work of the second winter school on European integration and topical issues of relations "The European Union and the relations between Russia and the European Union today" was completed on January 24-25, 2018. The main listeners of the school were representatives of the city administration and municipal bodies, as well as members of non-governmental organizations, teachers of the city"s universities, entrepreneurs.

Round table: Resilience in the EU and Russia

20 October 2017, a round table "Resilience in the EU and Russia" organized and conducted under the leadership of candidate of political sciences, associate professor of SPbSU Tatiana Romanova was held at St. Petersburg state University. Despite the fact that the scope of the event was relatively small, it brought together experts from several countries.

Theories and Methods in Russia and Abroad - 27 June 2017

The conference addresses the difference in studies of EU-Russian relations in Russia and abroad, which contributed to failures in the practice of EU-Russian relations. In this period of mutual reproaches and disengagement, the idea is to look at how research communities on both sideshave contributed to the crisis and what can be done in research terms to overcome it, what mistakes have to be recognised on both sides and what bridges can be built in the epistemic community.

The Model of the European Union 2017 was held

The regular EU Model 2017 game has come to an end. This year, the participants discussed the topical problems of the EU development, the prospects of EU cooperation with other states, as well as issues of internal development and transformation of the common European economy.

Intensive winter courses have been successfully completed

February 8-9, 2017, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Saint-Petersburg State University conducted intensive courses "The European Union and relations between Russia and the EU today."

Another student debate was successfully held

On November 8, 2016, a regular session of student debate on the topic of Current Aspects of EU-Russian Relations was held. The event was attended by several dozen students from Russia, the European Union countries and the United States. In general, it can be said that the dialogue was held in a friendly manner, the parties looked for compromises, treated the positions of the parties with understanding.

The EU model has been successfully completed in 2016.

From 11th to 15th March, St. Petersburg University became the venue for the 10th St. Petersburg Student European Union Model. The roles of heads of state and government, ministers of EU member states, eurodeputies and commissioners, representatives of the diplomatic corps and journalists of independent media were tried on by more than 280 students and pupils from 10 Russian cities.

In the winter of 2017, a book edited by the head of the project T. A. Romanova and her colleague M.

The contributing authors look at modernisation through different lenses applying varying methodologies, delivering: historical analysis, economic analysis, levels-of-analysis debate, which brings along transnational, transgovernmental and intergovernmental relations and interrelations between the EU and its member states, discourse analysis, new institutionalism as well as policy analysis.

Winter school 2016

The Winter school "European Union and relations between Russia and the European Union today" took place at St. Petersburg state University on February 9-10. The major participants in the event were teachers, business representatives, as well as young researchers from among international relations students of SPbSU. Project "J. Monnet Centre of Excellence", which is being implemented at the SPbSU Department of European studies, allows providing information and methodological support to researchers dealing with the issues of the European Union.

Thanks to the joint work of St. Petersburg state University and the European Commission, and the signing of a grant agreement between these organizations, research and educational work is now continued within the framework of the European Union research Centre - the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

Summer intensive Courses in 2014

On July 4-5, 2014, the sixth intensive courses "The European Union and EU-Russia Relations Today" were held at the School of International Relations. This summer we talked about the crisis in relations between Moscow and Brussels and the prospects for their development. Traditionally, not only St. Petersburg businessmen and university professors, representatives of the nonprofit sector and government bodies showed interest in the courses, but also employees of the universities of Moscow, Rostov-on-Don and, most importantly, Kiev. On January 31 and February 1, 2014, the fifth intensive courses "The European Union and EU-Russia Relations Today" were held at the School of International Relations. Given the current heightened interest in the WTO, we repeated the themes of last year’s winter courses and again touched on the role of the WTO in the process of European integration and in the relations between the European Union and Russia.
