Round table: Resilience in the EU and Russia

20 October 2017, a round table "Resilience in the EU and Russia" organized and conducted under the leadership of candidate of political sciences, associate professor of SPbSU Tatiana Romanova was held at St. Petersburg state University. Despite the fact that the scope of the event was relatively small, it brought together experts from several countries.

The main topic, to which the attention of speakers and participants of the round table was directed, was the phenomenon of "resilience" and its place in modern scientific discourse. It was noted that this term, which has not yet been fully established in Russian political science, has a wide range of meanings and interpretations that can be used depending on the situations in which the term is used. According to one speaker, resilience can be equated with stable development, gradual but undeniable progress.

Speakers were teachers of the SPbSU Nikolay Gudalov, Dmitry Tulupov and Elena Pavlova, who in her report touched on an important and topical issue of "resilience of Russian regime". The participant of the round table from the University of Finland noted that the interest in the topic of resilience is growing significantly. He, drawing Parallels between trump"s victory in the US elections and mass protests that were committed by millions of American citizens, came to the conclusion that "resilience, a certain vitality of Americans, became the driving force for their struggle."

The participants of the event emphasized that despite the complicated relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union, as well as the relatively little study of the topic of resilience, they seek to develop cooperation in this area.
